Why we are involved in missions work Before Jesus ascended to heaven following the resurrection, He gave his disciples a mission, according to Matthew chapter 28:19 “Go and make disciples of all nations!” This mission is not yet completed but is still being carried out by the followers of Jesus. To bring the good news of salvation to all people and all countries is a mission that applies to all Christians. Word of Life wants take the responsibility to carry out our part of this important task.
The missions work of Word of Life is vision-driven. From its very start, it has been guided by divine directions that the church has acted upon. By following the various directions of various times and regions, we have seen how God has opened doors to areas where people have been longing for the Gospel, and also been prepared to receive it.
How our mission work is organized The international work of Word of Life is extensive. A major part consists of so-called pioneer missions, i.e. directed toward regions and people that are still largely unreached by the Gospel.
The evangelistic work, however, is only the first step. Then comes the training and making of disciples and leaders, who in turn can win and disciple others. This is primarily done through Bible schools, leadership seminars and pastors’ courses. Word of Life’s missions work has a particular focus on training local leaders.
Parallel to the goal of winning people for God and training them for service, the international work also includes humanitarian work, such as emergency aid and social work.
It is the goal of Word of Life to set up fifteen regional centres in strategic locations in the world, modelled after the work in Uppsala. Through these centres, which become places for training local leaders and sending out new missionaries, we can build a lasting and effective work.
